Meet the Principal and Tutors

Meet the Team

The principal, Ruth Johnston, retired after a very fulfilling 40-year career in the nursing profession. Over the past 25 years, she has complemented her professional practice with a wide range of therapies, including Reflexology, Fertility Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage, Hopi Ear Candling and Hot Stone Massage. Ruth remains committed to her personal and professional growth by regularly completing new courses. She has also generously (12 years) volunteered her skills for Marie Curie Cancer Care, using her therapies to support terminally ill patients. Over the past couple of years, Ruth very kindly gave her time to set up a therapy room in Thompson House and ran it for a couple of years before passing the baton on to other therapists.

Hi, my name is Rosie, and I am a tutor at Body & Sole School of Complementary Therapies. My interest in essential oils began when I saw the positive effect they had on my father’s physical and mental wellbeing, especially when combined with gentle massage. Wanting to learn more, I enrolled on the year-long Aromatherapy Massage course at Body & Sole, which changed my life. After qualifying in 2008, I continued to build my skills, gaining diplomas in areas including Indian Head Massage, Hot Stone, and Reflexology. Ten years later, Ruth invited me to join the teaching team, helping students learn massage and reflexology sequences. In 2019, I gained my Level 3 Award in Teacher Training, which gave me the confidence to share my knowledge both in the school and through The Northern Network, a local support group I coordinate. After stepping away for around 18 months due to illness in 2023, I returned to focus on teaching essential oil profiles and the full body massage sequence. I am passionate about passing these skills on to Body & Sole students and love seeing them grow in confidence and make a difference wherever they choose to practise.

Hi I’m Caroline and a tutor at Body and Sole school of complementary therapies. I am a qualified beauty therapist and became familiar with Reflexology a number of years ago. I searched reflexology courses and came across a post on Facebook advertising Reflexology courses. I contacted Ruth and went to the school to meet her. The first thing she did was to welcome me with a hug. Since that day I have never left. I qualified as a tutor 7 years ago with level 3 teacher training and love teaching and sharing my knowledge and experience of this amazing subject. Reflexology is one of those therapies you are continually learning. No two sets of feet are the same. I am passionate about all complementary therapies as these are great ways to improve overall health and wellbeing. I also teach short courses such as Indian Head massage, Hot Stone therapy and Hopi Ear candling. It really is so rewarding to see students receive their diplomas and go out into the world to help and support others.

Reflexology Diploma

Next Course Starting Date:: 25 April 2026

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy aimed at restoring balance to all body systems, particularly following illness, stress, or injury. Rooted in ancient healing traditions, reflexology is based on the principle that the body possesses an innate ability to heal itself and achieve a natural state of equilibrium, thereby functioning at its optimal capacity. Every region of the body is mirrored in the hands and the feet, and a trained reflexologist can address imbalances by working specifically on these areas.

Main Benefits of Reflexology:

  • Relieves stress and tension, bringing about relaxation to the entire person

  • Re-energises the body

  • Supports improvement in physical conditions or injury recovery

  • Offers relief for insomnia

  • Helps to alleviate pain

  • Enhances circulation

  • Assists the body in eliminating toxins and impurities
